Dental Treatment

Therapeutic Dentistry deals with the treatment of tooth decay and its complications such as pulpitis and periodontitis.
What is tooth decay (caries)? And how does caries damage teeth?
When we forget (or cannot) clean our teeth after eating, acids formed in the mouth negatively affect the teeth.
Caries begins its "dark work" with the tooth enamel (the hardest tissue of the tooth). When the enamel is damaged (when a cavity forms), caries affects the pulp.
Pulpitis – is a very common disease; patients often visit the dental clinic due to toothaches associated with pulpitis. The main symptom of pulpitis is spontaneous sharp pain in the tooth (caries "likes to attack" at night – pulpitis pain has paroxysmal characteristics, which worsen at night). In acute pulpitis cases, the pain is sharp and throbbing. To avoid such unpleasant sensations, caries should be diagnosed at the first signs when it starts damaging the enamel. Detecting caries independently at such an early stage is difficult, but regular preventive visits to the dental clinic prevent cavities thanks to the dentists' attention, who can fight caries at its onset. If caries has only damaged the tooth enamel, treatment is quick and easy: the inflammatory focus is eliminated, and the cavity in the enamel is filled. Pulpitis treatment is more complex and prolonged (and requires anesthesia). Treatment starts with eliminating the focus of inflammation, then alleviating pain, stimulating healing processes, preventing the development of periodontitis, and restoring the tooth's shape and functions. Caries does not spare teeth, and untreated pulpitis can quickly turn into periodontitis.

Periodontitis – is inflammation of the root end of the tooth. When caries reaches the root, patients suffer noticeably and should immediately visit a dental clinic (to prevent more serious consequences, even tooth loss). Periodontitis is characterized by the syndrome of "swollen tooth," strong pain when biting. Periodontitis treatment takes quite a long time and depends on how far caries has damaged the tooth root (Therapeutic dentistry also deals with root canal cleaning and filling).
Caries damages teeth, affecting their healthy and beautiful appearance. However, modern therapeutic dentistry has learned to fully restore teeth using new materials and technologies. The filling materials used in therapeutic dentistry allow for perfect restoration of teeth, restoring their natural shape and enamel color. Distinguishing a restored tooth from a natural one with the naked eye is practically impossible.
